Rate group
Updated
Think of a rate group as a calendar with twelve slots, each pointing at a rate list. January through April use the standard list, May and June the wedding-season list, December the holiday list. The group answers the question "which prices apply today" without anyone touching a number.
Seasonal pricing is normal in ground transportation. Prom season, graduation weekends, the December party calendar and summer resort traffic all justify higher rates, and operators who do not raise them leave money on the table. The problem has always been the housekeeping: raising prices on the right date and lowering them again afterwards.
The common mistake is a single rate list edited by hand twice a year. Quotes sent in advance are at one price, the trip runs under another, and the office spends January explaining the difference. A rate group fixes the price to the month the trip runs in, which is what the customer expects.
How liverybook handles it
Rate groups rotate rate lists by month: each group holds a seasonal schedule that maps months to rate lists, and the applicable list is resolved from the trip's date. The tenant's default rate group is what the public booking wizard in the portal prices from, so portal quotes and office quotes agree. A trip's leg total is then built from that list's base rate for the vehicle class plus gratuity, tolls, parking, wait time charge and extras, less any discount. See billing.
