Multi-leg trip

One order, several movements: a multi-leg trip is a booking that contains two or more legs, such as a home-to-DCA transfer, a pickup at LAX, and a return three days later. The customer sees one reservation and one bill. The dispatcher sees three separate runs that each need a driver, a vehicle and a time.

In the trade, multi-leg work is where the money is and where the mistakes are. Road shows, executive travel days and wedding weekends are all multi-leg. Each leg has its own wait time, tolls and gratuity, and each one can be farmed out to a different affiliate. A leg in another city almost always is.

The common mistake is treating the booking as a single row. When the second leg slips, the status of the whole order goes wrong, the manifest for the second day misses it, and the invoice carries one lump sum that nobody can reconcile. Legs need to be first-class records with their own status and their own price.

How liverybook handles it

A Booking is the order and every vehicle movement is a BookingTrip, so a multi-leg trip is one booking with several legs. Each leg carries its own 11-state status (unassigned through completed, cancelled, late_cancelled or no_show), its own driver or affiliate assignment, and its own leg total of base rate + gratuity + tolls + parking + wait time charge + extras − discount. Each leg displays in its pickup location's timezone, so a DCA to LAX itinerary shows the pickup in ET and the LA-side times in PT. See bookings.
