Meet and greet

Updated

Meet and greet is the airport pickup where the chauffeur parks, walks into the terminal and waits at baggage claim or arrivals with the passenger's name on a sign. It usually carries a fee on top of the transfer, commonly $15 to $35, plus the short-term parking the chauffeur paid to be there.

Operators offer it because it is what corporate travel and first-time visitors expect, and because a kerbside pickup at a busy airport is a coordination problem: the passenger is at door 4, the car is being moved on by a police officer at door 2, and both are on the phone. Inside the terminal, the chauffeur finds the passenger, not the other way round.

The money leaks in the details. Parking is real cost and is easy to forget on the invoice. The chauffeur has to be inside before the flight lands, which means the flight has to be verified, not assumed. And the common mistake is booking a meet and greet without the flight number, so the chauffeur is standing at the wrong carousel for the wrong airline.

How liverybook handles it

Meet and greet is set up as a service type in the tenant's configurable lookup tables and chosen on the booking. The flight is verified through AeroDataBox and a flight badge appears on the trip, with the run board receiving flight.delay events. Parking and the wait time charge are components of the leg total, so the chauffeur's parking ticket ends up on the invoice. See bookings.
