As directed
Updated
As directed means the passenger has the car and chauffeur for a block of hours and decides the route as the day unfolds, which is why it is booked and billed as an hourly charter, typically with a 3-hour minimum. The manifest shows a pickup time and a pickup address, and then the words "as directed" where the drop would be.
Executives on a day of meetings, a visiting family seeing the city, a film crew moving between locations: these are as-directed days. The operator sells availability and judgement. A good as-directed chauffeur knows the city, knows where to stand by, and never asks the passenger where to park.
The money question is the same as on any hourly work. The booked hours are the minimum, overtime is billed in increments (often 30 minutes or the full hour), and garage time follows the operator's convention. The common mistake is a dispatcher who schedules the chauffeur's next run on the assumption that a 4-hour as-directed will end at 4 hours. It frequently does not.
How liverybook handles it
An as-directed booking is a single BookingTrip leg with a pickup, an hourly service type from the tenant's lookup tables, and the hourly base rate for the vehicle class. The leg sits on the run board with its own status sequence, so the dispatcher sees POB and arrived_dropoff as they happen and can hold the chauffeur's next assignment. The leg total adds gratuity, tolls, parking, wait time charge and extras. See bookings.
